Best & Worst World Cup Uniforms of All Time

Uruaguay 1930 World Cup Uniform

ESPN in their lead up to World Cup 2010, has written an article on the best and worst World Cup uniforms of all time. There is no doubt soccer uniforms have seen major changes over the years including colors, design and technology. New jerseys and uniforms are always one of the most exciting aspects of the tournament for fans as they outfit themselves in all the latest gear from their favorite country.

While it is no doubt a difficult task to judge uniforms from different eras against each other because of the styles and trends of the time, I have to take some issue with some of ESPN’s choices for worst uniforms of all time. They claim the new Germany away jersey is the second worst of all time!?!?! They mention the all black aspect as part of the reason, but personally I think the black Germany jerseys are pretty awesome. Proving that many people feel the same way as me about black jerseys, at SoccerFanatic.com we have already seen HUUUUUUUGE demand for the new black Mexico away jersey which is very similar. Overall, I think adidas has done very well with the 2010 World Cup kits with Germany, Spain and France being the best.

While ESPN got this year’s Germany jersey wrong, they definitely were right is calling the Cameroon cut off sleeve jerseys they attempted to wear during the 2002 World Cup, one of the worst. We understand that Puma is trying to be a trendsetter when it comes to National Team kits (see this years African nation jerseys), but come on, seriously, cut off sleeve jerseys? Who in their right mind ever ok’d this at Puma? Thank God FIFA stepped in banning these atrocious articles of clothing claiming, “They are not shirts … they are vests.”

All this best and worst uniform talk got me thinking about all the recently released kits for this years finals in South Africa. Nike, adidas, Puma and even Umbro have put out some pretty spectacular stuff that is sure to be the subject of much discussion,  but what country truly has the BEST or WORST uniforms of the World Cup? Below are a few sample of what is out there this year.

The new Germany Unis are not very nice. The African teams with the new puma style look the best this year. Ghana is the best in my opinion.

    Best all time? Argentina

I think the german dark outfits are really cool. I think they are really elegant. A friend commented that they look a bit like SS uniforms. Took the shine of them a bit after that comment ;) .
